BJJ is a self-defense system teaching students how to defend themselves against any size opponent through leverage and submission techniques rather than relying on size and strength. As the fastest growing form of martial arts, it also teaches discipline, builds confidence, reduces stress and gets you in phenomenal shape. In this class, students will begin with a series of warm ups, followed by technique training then sparring (“rolling”) sessions with fellow students to practice against a partner who is actively defending but in a controlled environment.
Ideal for the beginner or intermediate female student interested in pursuing BJJ, this class offers a less intimidating environment to learn under female instruction. Class will be structured similar to our all student BJJ class. Whether you are interested in basic self-defense, competition or just incorporating fitness and martial arts into a healthier lifestyle, this class will adjust to meet everyone’s needs.
Muay Thai Kickboxing is referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbows and knee strikes, thus using eight points of contact. A great aerobic workout designed to increase mobility, improve balance and overall core strength. A perfect self-defense and conditioning program for both men and women.
Kid’s Class is a combination of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, stand up defense and cardio conditioning in a safe atmosphere, learning serious techniques while having fun, also being taught self-respect, self-discipline and respecting others.
Cardio Conditioning is going to challenge everyone, no matter the level. From the person just starting to the experienced athlete, this class will improve each person’s skills. Each class will consist of different drills and trainings that incorporate plyometrics, individual and group work stations, core strength, agility drills, and bag work. This is a perfect weight loss program.
Hapkido, in Korean, means the way of life energy. It is a martial art designed to neutralize an opponent, consisting of a variety of arm and leg joint locks, nerve techniques, weapon techniques and throwing. Hapkido is very suitable for self-defense. Open Guard is part of the International Combat Hapkido Federation.
Women's Self Defense focuses on teaching women to guard themselves from potential assault and how to react in an attack situation. Information covered will range from the concepts of being aware of your surroundings, to stand-up and ground defense. This class will incorporate concepts from all three disciplines which include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Hapkido and Kickboxing.
Judo, meaning the gentle way, is a modern Japanese martial art and combat sport utilizing gripping holds and leverage to unbalance your opponent and take them to the ground. Open Guard is a member of USA Judo.

Dan has over 9 years of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu experience and currently holds a 4 stripe purple belt under Professor Pedro Sauer. In addition, he holds a green belt in Kickboxing. After introducing his own sons to martial arts, Dan made it a goal of his to do the same with others in the community. He partnered with area high schools and organized the first local Jiu Jitsu clubs in the state. It’s been a life long dream of his to continue introducing families to the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is excited to bring it to the Oconomowoc community.
With a desire to learn how to defend and protect herself, Lori joined her husband and sons on the mat making Brazilian Jiu Jitsu a family hobby. She has over 7 years of experience and currently holds a two-stripe blue belt under Professor Pedro Sauer. In addition, she is an experienced cardio-conditioning instructor and holds an orange belt in Kickboxing. With our women’s only BJJ classes and self defense seminars Lori looks forward to continuing teaching females practical self-defense skills in a comfortable, safe environment.
Dr. Tim has been training in martial arts for over 30 years. First, 10 years of Tae Kwon Do, then Gracie Jiu Jitsu in Virginia Beach during his emergency medicine residency under Frank Cucci. Dr. Tim moved back to Wisconsin in 1999 and helped bring Jiu Jitsu here. In 2008 he was promoted to black belt after 13 years training in Jiu Jitsu. He was one of the first 4 Gracie Jiu Jitsu Blackbelts to be awarded in Wisconsin. All of his belt promotions have been directly from Professor Pedro Sauer, an eighth degree master instructor under Master Helio Gracie. Dr. Tim's day job is as an Emergency Physician at a local hospital.
After 9 years of dedicating himself to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Dave currently holds a three-stripe brown belt under Professor Pedro Sauer. In addition, he holds a 1st degree black belt in Hapkido. He is experienced teaching students of all ages.
Bryan Gnadt has been studying Judo since 2007. During this time, he has strived to compete and teach others based on his experiences. Taught the art by a world traveling Judoka, various styles of other nation's Judo are present in his own. In the past two years he has been fortunate enough to train with many US Olympian Judoka and a world champion. Bryan is currently a 2nd degree black belt and holds the 2016 US Nationals Judo bronze medal.
Tammy is a United States Marine Corps veteran where she served right out of high school. During her military time she learned basic combative training with and without the use of weapons. A few years after leaving the military, Tammy began taking classes in Okinawa Kobudo, using bo, sai, nunchuck and tonfa. She began to also study kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has since earned her second degree black belt in karate and kobudo and still trains consistently in both. She also has a blue belt in kickboxing and is working toward her blue belt in BJJ.
Ryan has 7 years of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu experience and currently is a one stripe blue belt. Along with Jiu Jitsu, Ryan cross-trains and holds an brown belt in Judo. He is experienced in teaching students of all ages and assists with the childrens program and the Judo program.
Since being introduced to martial arts in 1987 with his father, Erik’s had an unwavering dedication to the sport. He is cross-trained in Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Aikido and Modern Arnis (a style of Filipino stick and knife fighting) and has competed on multiple levels. He currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Lung Fu Do Karate, 3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 4 stripe purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Professor Pedro Sauer. With over 20 years of teaching experience, he is capable of refining technique at higher levels as well as making material approachable for the littlest of learners.
Robert started his journey training Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu in a small school in Madison, WI. Although Jiu Jitsu was his main focus he made his professional fighting debut at a Superfights kickboxing event in 1996. Robert has continued to train and compete since 1994. His journey has led to training in schools in Colorado, Georgia, Washington, Wisconsin and Illinois. While in the Army, Robert ran combat clubs in Tikrit Iraq and the 4th Brigade gym on Fort Stewart. He was awarded a coveted First Sergeant’s coin for his work training soldiers in non-lethal combat techniques prior to a deployment to Afghanistan.
Dave Leannah has nearly two decades of experience in martial arts. He currently holds a 4th degree black belt in Combat Hapkido, a 4th degree master rank black belt in Ryukyu Kempo and is certified in the Self Defense Re-Scripted system. Expanding on the physical side of the art, Dave pursed the healing side becoming a Certified Medical Qigong Practitioner through the International Institute of Medical Qigong.
Brett is a certified and licensed athletic trainer and has been working actively in the profession for 16 years. As an athletic trainer, Brett's services include: injury prevention, evaluation, rehabilitation, preformance enhancement training, nutritional education, and manual therapy. Brett believes strongly that with appropriate knowledge, training and conditioning, the severity of injuries can be reduced or even avoided, and the recovery time for athletes can be significantly shorter. He has worked with athletes at all levels, from children to the elderly and from recreational to professional.
